Ruby Queen Plum on Myrobalan (Spring 2025)

A delicious mid-late season Japanese plum. Also known as BY8155.70.

This is a productive, upright, mid-sized tree with moderate resistance to bacterial leaf spot and bacterial canker. It is considered an especially desirable variety for organic production and humid climates. Ruby Queen is not self-fertile and will need another Japanese plum as a pollinizer. Possible partners include Methley, Shiro, Vanier, and Santa Rosa.

Ripening mid-season, Ruby Queen produces large reddish-black plums in abundance. The fruit is clingstone, firm enough for commercial production, and has an excellent sweet flavor.

Ruby Queen was developed in the USDA/ARS breeding program at Byron, Georgia by Jim M. Thompson and W. R. Okie. This is the same program that produced Rubysweet and Byrongold.
