A traditional American cider apple...

These apples and pears were grown in North America during the Colonial Era and through the time of the American Civil War. Some of them – such as the Bartlett pear – have enjoyed centuries of sustained public life, while others faded from view as the populist stars of the 20th century dominated grocery stores. Today a renewed interest in "all things orchard" brings these heirloom classics back into circulation to the delight of hobbyists and growers across the country.
